WordRise Privacy Policy (Draft)
Draft notice: This document is an app-specific starting point for store submission and website hosting. It is not legal advice. Have a qualified advisor review before publishing.
1. Who we are
WordRise is an English vocabulary learning app. This policy describes how we handle information when you use the WordRise mobile app and related services.
2. Information we collect
Account information
- Email address — used to create and sign in to your account (Firebase Authentication).
- User ID — assigned by Firebase when you register.
- Display name / username — if you choose one in the app.
Learning and app activity
Stored in Firebase Cloud Firestore when you use WordRise:
- Selected English level (A1–C2) and daily word goal
- Daily word plans and word progress
- Quiz sessions, answers, and scores
- Streak, XP, and level progress
- Weekly leaderboard entries (display name, score, quiz stats for the active week)
- App language and timezone preferences
- Notification settings (on/off, pause state)
Push notifications
- Expo push token (if you enable notifications) — used to schedule local reminders and optional remote delivery infrastructure.
- WordRise primarily uses on-device local notifications for daily words and quiz reminders.
Advertising (if enabled)
- If ads are shown, Google AdMob may collect advertising identifiers and usage data according to Google’s policies.
- Ad serving can be disabled when production ad IDs are not configured.
Diagnostics
- Standard app logs may appear in development builds.
- Production builds do not intentionally collect crash reports unless you add a dedicated crash/analytics SDK later (verify before store forms).
3. How we use information
We use your information to:
- Provide and secure your account
- Deliver daily words, quizzes, progress, and streak features
- Schedule learning reminders you opt into
- Show weekly leaderboard rankings for your selected level
- Improve app reliability and fix bugs
- Show ads when ads are enabled and configured
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Third-party services
WordRise uses:
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Google Firebase | Authentication, database (Firestore), optional push infrastructure |
| Google AdMob | Advertising (when enabled) |
| Expo / EAS | App builds and optional push token services |
These providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies.
5. Data retention
- Account and learning data remain while your account is active.
- If you delete your account in the app, your Firebase Authentication account is removed. Some Firestore records may remain until server-side cleanup is completed (see Account Deletion).
- Backups or security logs may be retained for a limited period where required.
6. Your choices
- Notifications: turn off in WordRise Profile → Change Plan or device settings.
- Account deletion: Profile → Account Settings → Delete Account (see Account Deletion).
- Ads: limited to in-app ad placements when ads are enabled; you can use device ad settings where applicable.
7. Children
WordRise is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect data from children. Contact us if you believe a child has registered.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures through Firebase (authentication, access rules). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
9. International users
Data may be processed in countries where Firebase/Google operate data centers.
10. Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
